This authors 1st two selections for a long gun are a .22LR and a 5.56 AR. I say no to both. If you want to plink get a .17 HMR, the .17 is a better varmint gun also. If you really like squirrel gumbo, keep a .22 around. The .17HMR won't leave enough of the varmint to put in a pot. F an AR15, waste of money. The only thing a .22 is good for is learning how to shoot. Once you're proficient with the .22LR, buy a .30cal. Can't argue the 12ga pump. I just prefer a 12ga SA. I prefer SA over single action any day of the week. Revolvers are SA at it's most basic, so they count.

My SHTF Long Guns Are A AR In 450 Bushmaster And A Winchester 12 Gauge Pump Shotgun.
My Wife Who Is Very Proficient In Firearms Use Being A Country Girl ! Has Her Own Favorite Weapons , One Of Which Is A Ruger 10-22 So We Are Well Prepared For Anything.

Exactly. I used to be very anti 9mm for all the people that made it into the ER as it did not seem to do as much damage but now that I shoot more, I like its price and accuracy.

Ive got the 10-22. I've got the Mossberg. I understand the reason for a AR15 in 5.56 being the availability of the rounds, but I'll stick with the M1 thank you.
