Just for info. "Premises open to the public" are private areas owned by the business. Parking violations, at least in Oregon, do not apply. Like everything there are some exceptions. Parking in a disabled zone for instance is a state law where a citation can be issued. The rest of the parking lot is "suggested" parking a travel.
This vet can stop and park where he wants. Just saying.

As a Law Enforcement Officer if the car is in Park it is considered Parked, whether or not you are with the car.
But if I happened to roll by this scene in a patrol vehicle, I would throw on the lights and help the Vet load the groceries after I told that fat ass to move along before I arrested him for disturbing the peace

CPL Harold Mundstock - As a disabled vet myself, I would do the same commenting in support of another who needs to have some help in some way ! Besides it sounds like this [excuse my language]"ASS" who comments just to hear himself and is probably a very insecure, lonely person himself! Cutting a couple rungs off his high, selfish ladder might do some good! This country needs a lot of reshaping when it comes to common courtesy! Not taught as good policy it seems!

I agree however what I am saying holds true. For instance California will not be the same as Virginia or Massachusetts or Washington State. Me, I would be helping the vet.
I just know because of working my civilian job in transportation that the rules are not the same across the board.

PO2 Richard C. - A friend(former Marine) and I were going into Publix one day for a sub for lunch and a lady almost ran over us trying to a handicap parking spot. She jumped out, note jumped out and started yelling at us for blocking the handicap parking spot, my buddy looked at her and casually replied, "I didn't realize being a fat ass qualifies for a disability". My respect for him increased a thousand fold.. She was stunned..Sandwich tasted real good that day..

She has my blessings to rip the guys head off. Apparently he has no idea of the sacrifice that has been made on his behalf.

We've all seen these self-righteous idiots too many times, but they do make for good sport on occasion. Several years ago I saw a young woman berating an older lady (early 80's maybe) and accusing her of using her husband's veteran handicap plate to park illegally. The victim looked like she was getting ready to cry. I interrupted and informed the screaming banshee I knew the lady, knew she was a veteran and was service-related disabled, and I did this loud enough that it grew a small crowd. I told her she would apologize, thank the lady for her service and get out! She did all three with a bright red face and left followed by a round of comments from those around. As I started to leave, the former victim stopped me and said "We don't know each other. How did you know I am a service-related veteran?" I told her I didn't, but it was soooo much fun setting the screamer straight. She gave me a kiss on the cheek and smiled. Both things made my day.

PO2 Richard C. - Our WWII and Korean War veteran's of our post a number of years back actually invited every Viet Nam Veteran they could find to a free dinner just for them at the post building . The purpose was to encourage them to join our Legion Post, it worked We did get some new members. it also was like a high school reunion for Me, many of My former classmates did attend. Currently Our elected officers are mostly from the Persian Gulf war and Vie Nam era and some WWII or Korean vets also holding office mostly in appointed positions. Our Post also will pay for the membership of anyone that is a resident of the town that is still on active duty and joins the post. Another thing We do is every Thursday morning year round We have a drop in coffee for anyone that is a Veteran of the Armed Forces and its all just social and You don't have to be a member of the Legion, just a Veteran. We have had people that have joined after meeting the veteran's in the Post and feeling welcome. We have a great bunch of people here.
I may add that both the Police and Fire Dept in town have adopted us and provide both breakfast or dinner from time to time at the Post building as We are also involved with the community and have even helped them with things like color guards or honor details at functions they have had and they help us a lot also. Our support also to and from the Millis Public Schools and Town Government is outstanding. All our Veterans, WWII to the present are involved in all these activities.

You belong to a Post that is doing things right! I tried a lot of things when I was Adjutant (I work on the philosophy that it is easier to seek forgiveness than ask permission) that appeared to work but always ended up not succeeding. We set up a table at a local Revolutionary War/town history celebration with a sign inviting ANY veteran to come to the Post for a two-day open house with refreshments. Had about 90 Vets show up and 31 submitted applications. Our 2 biggest problems were not present for the vote or at the open house - they were out of town. To make a long story short, 4 months later 4 had withdrawl their applications, 13 had transferred to Post 200 (the Dept of NH holding post), 11 had transferred to other Posts in the area and 3 remained with my Post. I contacted every single one of them and asked them why. Basically, two guys drove them away and nobody wanted to do anything about it. Of the last 3, two stopped paying dues and one died in an auto accident. Net gain - 0. Personal opinion? It's not much of a Post, and that's sad.

What an asshat. Even if she wasn’t a vet, she’s in her damn 80s! I’m pretty sure that qualifies her to park there.

I carry Disabled Vet plates on all 3 of my vehicles. My wife is also disabled and uses handicap parking. Should she be questioned, there is a copy of her letter authorizing her to have disabled plates in the glove box of the truck and van with the insurance papers. The only time I get questioned is when I am riding my trike.
