I'm glad that Doug Jones won just on character alone he was much better then Moore Doug Jones has also some values that align with conservative causes so he could prove to be good for both types of voters.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I love it... accused (being the key word) child molester. Language weaponized. What if I accused you of being a goat lover 40 or so years ago (though I couldn't because I'm not old enough to)? A story could be made headlining that you are an accused goat lover. That's the truth... you're accused of such heinous act. It could be blasted across many media platforms. How could you disprove it? Even if you didn't do it, you would be associated with being a goat lover, though you were only accused.

Correct me if I'm wrong... Moore hasn't been found guilty of these heinous accusations, right?

SFC (Join to see) - nor is he going to be found guilty, because the criminal statute of limitations have run. You've set up a straw man, which is a logical fallacy.

What you do have is nine women who are reporting similar acts by Moore from those days. What you have is other people coming forward and corroborating parts of the stories. He was known to troll the mall for young girls. He admitted knowing some of the girls, then denied knowing all of them.

Moore supporters are under the mistaken impression that the allegations needed to be proved beyond a reasonable doubt, while the voters didn't view it that way. You see, if the voters think that your character sucks, they will vote for the other guy.

Capt Gregory Prickett - Sir, that's the thing... voter's viewed it that way. If I were to be accused of rape, though I may not have done it, that will haunt me. I will go under an investigation, may have to leave the unit, etc... If I were coming up for promotion at that time, that process would be halted till I was cleared. What great timing, as well. Tough luck. Who would think I even remotely would deserve it? I have been accused of rape. That is one of the most depraved acts one can commit in our society. Though I haven't committed the act, outsiders (though taught otherwise) will view me in a negative light. The accusation can be devastating to how people perceive the accused.

The accusation of child molestation... there's very little room for a person to go lower than that. That accusation just before an election??? Why is this just now being brought out??? In 40 years? I find the timing ridiculous. I don't think it's far fetched to say that some of these accusations have no merit, and that they were used as weapons to influence voters.

I thought it's funny the same thing was happening to President Trump, but I didn't hear anything of it after the election. I suspect that I won't hear anything about Moore and the accusations against him anymore. The media is funny... they drill stories into people's heads over and over. When the mission is complete, all of that disappears and moves on to the next distraction. There are a lot of holes that are in these stories, but that's not the focus. The powers that be are aware that people are too easily influenced; who wants to vote for a sexual predator, or a person even accused as one? Let me virtue signal by saying that I would never vote for a sexual predator, racist, LGBTQIAPK hater, etc.

Moore was accused of things that can't be proven. Now that the election is over, it is certain the news media will leave the women who came forward, in the dust. They won't try to prove or disprove the allegations.
All it took to win an unwinnable election was to ensure you slander the candidate and make sure you shame anyone who might be inclined to vote for them.
Today, Chuck Schumer reported that someone made false accusations of sexual harassment against him. There are more likely to follow. After all, proof isn't required.
Let the games begin.

One thing and one thing only caused Moore's loss ... allegations of impropriety with teenage girls 40+ years ago. Had those allegations not been made, Moore would have won yesterday ... decisively. Further, had Moore dropped out after the allegations were made ... and been replaced by Strange or another respected Republican, that replacement would have won. I'm of mixed emotions. That Moore did not drop out tends to buttress his claims that the allegations are false ... and if that is the case, I can't hold it against him for staying in the race. On the flip, Jones is a pretty decent man and comes close to being of the Blue Dog Democrat variety of politicians. State politics and national political parties don't cleanly align. If he wants to hold on to the seat he won yesterday when he comes up for reelection in 2020, he'll have to find accommodation with the Republicans in the Senate and support the Trump agenda. If he doesn't, and perhaps even if he does, he'll get sent to the house next time around ... much as happened to Bobby Bright from the 2d Congressional in AL in Nov 2010.

Capt Gregory Prickett - Whatever you choose to believe, believe. However the actions that you correctly ascribe to him ... were taken based on his personal religious beliefs. That I (and you) may disagree with them doesn't make his actions something to despise. He stood up ... at the cost, twice, of his position, for that in which he believes. I credit him with having the courage of his convictions even though I may disagree with him. I stand by my comment.

LTC (Join to see) - He was a judge, sworn to uphold the law. If he can't do that, based on his religious beliefs, he should have resigned and served in a different capacity. The military has a great example of that, which was just made into a movie. Desmond Doss could not, based on his religious beliefs, carry a weapon, so he became a medic.

You do not get to ignore the law because of your religious beliefs. That was settled a long time ago with the Mormons and polygamy. It still holds true today, what the Supreme Court held in 1878:

"Can a man excuse his practices to the contrary because of his religious belief? To permit this would be to make the professed doctrines of religious belief superior to the law of the land, and, in effect, to permit every citizen to become a law unto himself. Government could exist only in name under such circumstances." Reynold v. United States, 98 U.S. 145, 167-68 (1878).

His religious beliefs don't mean squat if he violates the law.

Capt Gregory Prickett - Perhaps ... depending on one's point of view. The question becomes who's law ... state or federal ... and who's interpretation of the Constitution. He lost ... so he was wrong ... but my point was and remains ... he stood on principle as he saw it. Would that more Germans had done so against Hitler. That's not hard-headed ... that's a principled position. I stand by my original comment.

LTC (Join to see) - SCOTUS ruled on that point, so it's not dependent on someone's point of view. It's the law, and he can either follow the order of a higher court, or he needed to be removed, as he was (twice).
