As far as I am concerned, it's one of the greatest pistols ever manufactured. Still trying to get my hands on one. I've got a Desert Eagle .50, but I still want this one.

I am a revolver guy, but I might feel different about it if I ever fired a 1911 that was not so worn out and loose that it sounded like a tin can with pea gravel rolling down the sidewalk. Every 1911a1 I was issued was older than I was. It would be nice to fire a "fresh" one.

MCPO Roger Collins - Once as a 1stLt on the pistol qualifying range, my assigned pistol was a rattling, loose collection of worn out parts. I pulled the trigger and had 5 rounds come out at the cyclic rate. The Gunner who was running the course gave me the "stink eye." I told him "Gunner, no BS. One trigger pull." He took the pistol and loaded a magazine with five. One trigger pull one round. He gave me the "stink eye" again. Then he pulled the trigger again... four rounds at the cyclic rate.
"Well... $%#@ Sir, how'd you manage to bust the Marine Corps pistol?"
"I do not know Gunner. I do not know."
The armorer on the range disassembled my pistol, replaced a couple parts and it was back to qualifying.

If you get one, now a days there are so many after market parts you can do anything to it. An old one or a new one will do you good. A picture of my 1911, I use to shoot comp in 79, I have stock 70 series Gold Cup too.

Hmm, that's interesting. However I would be a little wary of buying a weapon over the internet. You don't know in what kind of condition it would arrive in. And while I wouldn't mind restoring it myself, but some are so well used, they're hardly serviceable anymore, and I really want to fire it.

Cpl Tom Surdi - I looked at the M1 Garands at CMP site and they do a good job of rating and explaining the various condition codes. The Garands are pretty scarce in the higher grades, and pricy. Or they were, and for good reason. A definite game-changer weapon, and one of our best ever in terms of service and lethality for the period.
