Let's see. When was the last time planes from a carrier reached out and touched someone...? When was the last time one was significantly damaged in action by the enemy...? Hmmm

The whole argument revolves around missiles which assuming they actually work, which would be against everything we have seen from the other Russian based systems. Our layered defense in depth tactics would have a lot of opportunities to shoot it down, and then if that fails we have the best point defense systems in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WumIk1MwVPM

The carrier is one way to move an operating airfield into a place that has none. Any air operations center land based or on a ship takes a lot of people to operate. I still think the carrier has a place in Military aviation and is by no means obsolete. Its still an interesting question especially as demonstrated by General Billy Mitchell how vulnerable a battleship was, carriers like any ship can be sunk. There are valid arguments either way but in the complete picture I still see Aircraft carriers as part of the complete package of airpower along with land based strike aircraft.
