Ken Kraetzer I don't see any scenario where North Korea gives up their nuclear weapons voluntarily. They are the only real deterrent they have against what they see as US aggression. The recent history of Iraq and Libya give them little comfort that nothing bad will happen if they give them up.

If we predicate our diplomacy with North Korea on them giving up their nuclear weapons we are pretty much going to make ourselves irrelevant in any negotiation. All we will get out of them in relation to those weapons is promises when it is convenient for them which will in turn be broken when it is convenient for them regardless of who is the POTUS.

If South Korea wants the treaty, hard for US to oppose. Also hard for US, Japan, even China tolerating a country near by with unstable leadership having nuclear weapons.
