How about we eye the programs like the research of the mating rituals of the California Desert Tortoise or $283,500 on Department of Defense bird-watching, $48,500 to write about Russian smokers, $406,419 to look at a “chicken and egg” problem, $3.1 billion on vacation for federal employees placed on administrative leave, $5,000 for a documentary film about Madison County, North Carolina’s best fiddler, Nearly $150,000 to understand why politics stress us out, Regulating llama farmers out of existence, $65,473 to figure out what bugs do near a lightbulb, Making Americans do their dishes twice, $35,000 for solar-powered beer and many more like it...not to mention welfare reform or other social programs with inordinate amounts of waste. All you have to do is google govt research grants and see what is out there...a lotof stupid university research that doesn't mean jack. There are a lot of seniors that have worked hard and are retiring and SS is part of what they counted on to live. They do not need to cut Medicare and SS. There are other wayd to balance the budget...cut stupid activites and quit giving yourselves raises. I am usually a middle of the road Republican but thsi type of talk just gets my juices flowing.

MAJ James Woods - I worked in RDT&E in DoD and I can tell you there is waste but what the average American doesn't see is that the "waste" is because of congressional mandates and monies are funded for other programs that we can't discuss on this forum. I am against a majority of the foreign reconstruction projects...that is a huge waste of Taxapayer dollars.
They just need to pay back the Social Security that they robbed over the years (many years) and leave the healthcare alone that folks need.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth And there’s the problem, the billions wasted on defense contracts that produced nothing compared to billions that target Americans that need assistance. Reform the assistance programs not eliminate them. End SS and give back all that has been paid into it. Leave Medicare and Medicaid alone but that’s not what the GOP controlled Congress wants to do; further privatization and Darwin philosophy for healthcare except instead of survival of the fittest it’s survival of those who can afford it.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen ACA isn’t one size fits all otherwise it’d be Universal healthcare. But yeah if the law could have mandated all private insurers that conduct business within a state to be on the State exchange and then states with two or less insurers can invite across state lines competition then I think we all would be having a different discussion about healthcare.

Lt Col Charlie Brown But how is SS costing all Americans? Perhaps it’s the incompetence of federal govt accountants mismanaging the program. One would think tens of millions pay into it and if working class outnumbers the retirees that are entitled to SS then why would there be a deficit in the program itself? I would love to see the federal governments actual financial books.
