Trump needs to take some of the blame for his vitriolic campaigning.

Yes, he should have been nice and taken the media's vitriol aimed at Republicans so he could've lost like Dole, McCain and Romney.

Agree Trump is the reason the election did not return better results for Republicans. He refuses to expand his base (and it is shrinking) plus his tweets continue to turn more and more people against him. He is his own worst enemy.

Gee, American citizens who don't like the direction of the Trump party vote in people that they want, and that's bad?

You do realize that being able to chose your own representatives, in a free election, is what is guaranteed by the Constitution, don't you? There is no guarantee that the Republicans get to keep the House, and the People decided that they didn't deserve to do so.

Wow, my writing must really suck as certain people seem to take away things not found in the text. Never said people shouldn't vote. I did mock those who previously told us to rally around those we didn't prefer and we did. Now those same people refuse to rally around the nominee we chose and are even voting against other Republicans. Quite different than your takeaway.

SN (Join to see) - I can't top your self-appraisal of your writing. BTW, I was a Republican from my first presidential vote for Reagan to the last vote I cast for a GOP presidential candidate, Romney. I'm not going to be part of a party led by Trump, so I left it, and I'll support people who will hold him accountable. Sometimes that will be a Democrat, sometimes a Republican, sometimes a Libertarian.

The President is the standard bearer for the party and the party has almost universally supported his actions and policies.

When the President takes the party in a direction that directly undermines the ideals that drew many of us to the Republican party to begin with is it even a little bit fair to expect us to continue to support that party or especially to support Republican candidates that have publicly aligned themselves with the President and his policies we may strongly oppose?

No, feel free to not support President Trump but when a Republican comes along that you support, don't get all sanctimonious and demand we rally around the eventual nominee when there are exceptions you only apply to your preference.
