Just do away with it. When you graduate High School or turn 18 you more than likely have a drivers license...therefore, in this day and age of e-data, the nation already has a database they can tap into for eligible young folks male and female, that they dould draft if they saw fit. A Selective Service System, IMHO, is another reason to hire and keep another unnecessary govt office open when all you have to do is hit search in a nationwide d'base.

There are flaws with using drivers license in lieu of Selective Service system
1. Not all young people have drivers licenses
2. Driver's license office is at state government level, Selective Service office is federal government
3. Selective Service is more than just registration. It is maintenance and policy which requires an office for active management

I don't think it is helpful. If we need to draft people, let's put out the call. Send recruiters into the high schools and colleges and register EVERY able bodied person. Otherwise, give it up.

LTC Eugene Chu - everyone has a social Sec Number whether or not they have a drivers license. They could pull from that. To me this is another reason for Govt ID requirements.

Seems to me to be much ado about nothing. Registering with the Selective Service is not tantamount to being drafted, especially since there is no draft. My son registered when he turned eighteen years of age. That was it. You're simply a name on a list.

Why not? Unless we reinstate the draft, it’s of no consequence who is on the list. Rules for exemptions from the draft will take care of the social situation of gender and other protected classes, just as in the past.
