Good morning RP. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Ares 3 Landing Site: The Martian Revisited." This close-up from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's (MRO) High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera shows weathered craters and windblown deposits in southern Acidalia Planitia. This is the location of the fictional landing site of NASA Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) in the 2015 movie 'The Martian'. MRO was launched in August 2005, and arrived at Mars in March 2006. Instruments aboard the MRO include three cameras (HiRISE and two others), a spectrometer, a radiometer, and ground-penetrating radar.

Maj William W. 'Bill' Price - my son went to Houston and toured the center there in 2004 as part of a science project through school. He has always been fascinated with space and passed that to his daughter. When he was her age, we would in the yard and he would tell me all about what was overhead. I was not interested but loved the passion and wonder for him. I will give this to him as well. Happy Saturday.
