Vanderbilt doctor creates artificial kidney

A number of years ago, we had a nephew who was suffering from renal failure. I looked into donating a kidney for him. The first thing we did was go through a series of questions. When they asked about my blood pressure the questions stopped. At the time I had no idea high blood pressure would disqualify you from donating a kidney. Now they are getting closer and closer to having a usable artificial kidney. This is really exciting since it means people won't have to wait for years for a transplant and donors won't be needed at all. If only this had been available for Joe. He died about 10 years ago.
