The NC National Guard allows the full time staff to carry if they are properly trained and have a concealed carry permit.

CW5 Jack Cardwell A sidearm should be an integral part of UOD.

Frankly, I'm surprised this is even an issue. It's been a while, but every watch I stood in-port as OOD, I was armed. We didn't arm the OOD at NAS Pensacola when I was there... but then again, that was before 9/11. As AFPO onboard ship, we ran response drills regularly... and while I'll admit the skill level was rudimentary; we'd have presented a serious challenge to any such intrusion. One of the drills we ran included a scenario where a member of ship's company was the threat. Considering the risks, I think it's only prudent that we arm and train personnel to their own defense, and defense of others.

In the Utah national guard, soldiers who posses a concealed firearm permit can carry in uniform while on duty and on installations.
I've enjoyed it.
