I am for taking guns away from criminals but have charges been previously brought against this abuser? Has he been arrested with a history of violence? If not then then the violence against women act doesn't apply. Did the girlfriend have him arrested only to drop the charges where nothing sticks and he is legal? How about the DemoRATS getting back to the nations business of negotiating these types of bills rather than chasing a dream of impeachment? I am sorry that a cop got shot but if it were legal for the perp to own a handgun then well there is nothing legally any could have done. Acevedo is upset and angry that one of his guys got shot but the violence against women act, even if enacted may not have helped her because there may not have been any precedent or reasons for them to take his guns...we don't know the whole story and this is just cops telling the side they want you to hear without proper context.
If the NRA is fattening the pockets of the Republicans then the Pro abortionists are fattening the lives of the DemoRATS!
I know what you are going to say this is apples and oranges but using Acevedo's comments that “You are an American, and American blood is being shed every day in this community throughout this nation” he said. “Do something about it or retire.” Well American blood is being shed everyday.. alive unborn children are being aborted and murdered everyday but know one is looking at that and arguing that point.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth - Sir If you had read the article you'd see the main complaint is the Violence Against Women bill in which the Dems have passed though the RepubliCONS oppose it due to the gun safety provision in the bill.Point to me where the Dems have said they want to take our guns, their point is comprehensive gun control. That RepubliCON Faux news talking point is bullsh@35t. The Dems have passed numerous bill this year and the Repubs and Moscow Mitch are sitting on them because their Fuhrer is being impeached

Solis had a lengthy criminal record, including having been convicted of assault to a family member in 2015, evading arrest in 2016, and burglary of a vehicle in 2017. He is expected to face a capital murder charge in Brewster’s slaying, but it had not been filed late Saturday.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no law prohibiting him from owning a gun would have changed the outcome. I have attached his rap sheet.

Let me get this straight.
Cop guy blames legislators because shooting a cop is not illegal enough?
GTFOH.
I understand that the legislation, if approved, would have allowed Lautenburg-like restrictions on gun ownership if the boyfriend was convicted of domestic assault of his girlfriend.
Was he convicted? Or does this law, even if passed, not apply in this situation.
Hmmm...

SSgt Ray Stone - Oh I read it. I am questioning whether it would have made a difference in this case, or if the Chief there is grandstanding.
I suspect that i would not have applied in this case, because under that law, it would have required the offender had been convicted of domestic abuse of his girlfriend.
As far as I can ascertain, that was the reason the police went to his door, but that is not the same as he has a prior conviction and thus a restriction on gun ownership.

My requirement is pretty simple. If you are going to cite a case as evidence a change to law is needed, the proposed law needs to actually be applicable to the case cited. Otherwise, the argument is undercut.
