When I first went in the Navy alcohol consumption was common in all ranks. Officer and enlisted. The suicide rate was much lower. So I question this assumption. Unless it is because consumption is now looked upon with disfavor. In the days of wooden ships and iron men, a good sailor was one that could drink all night and work all day.

I believe our paradigm of PTSD is wrong. PTSD is a condition that requires survival first and foremost. It is a long fight, but survival is the key to healing.
