Obama may have not been the military's best friend, but if sequestration is the litmus test of friend/foe, he had lots of Republican help there. He also didn't specialize in degrading or public humiliation of those who served under him. Every President before now personally fired, allowed those to resign (got fired) by their own hand. Not twitter.

How about the Marine that had to stand in the rain and hold his umbrella. Pretty Degrading for a true Warrior

Trump said, “So I just heard they broke into the office of one of my personal attorneys.”
Law enforcement had a warrant so I wouldn't characterize the incident as 'breaking into one's office'. He really should shut up and focus on Syria, China, North Korea, and Russia.

With the current administration, I always consider the constitution with everything he orders, and as orders follow from the highest levels, I consider the legality of those orders.

All I can say right now is that I am very glad to be in the Army Reserve rather than California National Guard, as if I was ordered to be part of a deportation force that is one order I could not obey, legal or not.

SSG Erik McKinster - My (our) border isn't in danger. In fact, our border is the most secure its ever been.

What I won't do is be part of a stupid scheme to rile up the mostly white, mostly male, mostly uneducated Trump base to both gin up support for the GOP in midterms elections and to distract from the Mueller investigation, which just tipped the FBI to raid Trump's "fixer/porn-star-payer/threatener".

"that is one order I could not obey, legal or not."

If you have already decided there is a legal order you cannot obey then I wonder how in good conscience you put on the uniform. I don't mean that as some sort of inflammatory comment, and am not trying to insult you. I just know I would have a hard time reconciling that position with the oath we take which includes the following: "I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice."

I realize the officers oath contains different language. Perhaps therein lies the answer to my question...

I would notify my chain of command of the conflict of interest, which for lawyers is a very big deal.

Capt Gregory Prickett - There is also nothing about orders of officers appointed over us. That is in the enlisted oath, which also specifies "LAWFUL" orders, so enlisted people also have an expectation of using their professional judgement to determine if an order is unlawful.

If I ordered an enlisted soldier to torture a POW, I would expect that enlisted soldier to inform me that that was an unlawful order and to respectfully disobey it, and then report it up the chain of command.
