We will not win a military victory in Afghanistan for these reasons:
- We take terrain and quickly abandon it. That means the Taliban has the opportunity to own the land and the people.
- The Taliban is decentralized in a very large country. We are essentially playing whack a mole.
- The people will not take matters into their own hands to rid the country of the Taliban. The people dislike the US and the Taliban. Most Afghans withhold valuable intelligence that could help us.
- The Taliban will not decisively engage us in large pivotal battles.
- The Taliban don't fear us, and we don't have the ability to make them stop fighting.
- An important facet of counterinsurgency is providing security. We can't provide security to the tribes and villages. It is impossible to build a nation when we cant protect the people and institutions from the Taliban.

I think we can define terrorism, LTC Eric Udouj. I simply believe that the United States is simply not yet willing to step up (in some respects internationally, but most assuredly domestically) and do something about it.

Stephen -- we do have a Joint Definition of terrorism - but still no USG definition. And I so agree about the domestically - that has been an eye opener now. Had we stepped up to bat when the POTUS said Antifa is a terrorist organization - and launched a USG Joint TF to eliminate them from the start.. maybe we would not be floundering where we are now. And they definitely are international in a lot of aspects.. not just a US organization..
