I watched an old John Wayne movie and they used a ‘Jeep’ ship after Pearl Harbor. I had never heard of a ‘Jeep’ ship before then.Seems the Navy is more willing to adjust their ships to meet the technology of today. Other than the fact they can't really operate by themselves, sure... An LPD may be "versatile", but it isn't a Swiss Army knife that the article claims. Amhibs rarely operate by themselves, because their self-defense capability is limited and they are too high value a target to leave undefended.
