Speaking of deer hunting, my 13 year old grandson got his first deer 2 weeks ago. It was doe season. Then he went out last week and got his first buck. (yes, legal in SD)

go for him, nothing more special when a kid gets there first deer. I know my buttons were busting when my daughter got her first when she was 16

SPC Michael Head - Grind the venison and mix with ground pork and a little beef to make a really fine sausage. Throw in some black pepper and minced garlic and smoke over an oak fire. Fantastic! Make enough to last until next deer season.

SPC Michael Head - Over the years I have learned there is a great difference in venison depending on the locality in which it fed. Southern Oregon, feeding on pear trees = delicious. Arizona feeding on mesquite & creosote bush = pretty bad. Washington state feeding on alpha fields = pretty good. Here in South Dakota feeding on wheat fields = fair.

SPC Michael Head - I'm not a big fan of Venison either. It's about the Hunt. I'll give the kill to a foodbank or similar.

Hunters also know the lay of the land better than any outsider too. This is why you don't trespass in the "way out in the middle of nowhere."
