A Titanic survivor has recalled the horror of the night when the ship went down in resurfaced footage from more than four decades ago.
Frank Prentice was an assistant purser and one of the last crewmembers onboard the British boat when she struck an iceberg during her fateful maiden voyage on 15 April 1912.
Speaking during an interview with the BBC in 1979, he describes the moment the iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean ripped through the bottom of the ship.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - yep, in the dark cold of the icy ocean with being so far from rescue is not a very pleasant thought.

I read a fascinating article that said that the Titanic had a fire in her forward coal bunker that had been burning since she left Belfast. There were pictures that show scortches on the hull. It was this that weakened the steel of the hull, and it was also the reason why she was travelling at full speed - for fear of running out of fuel as the fire consumed it.
