Not to belittle the new M-1 Tank, I'm sure it has some really good points, but couldn't it run over a car before.

Why does it surprise you. DC-3's are still flying today as is the B-52. A well engineered piece of equipment can last well beyond its lifetime. Hopefully the A-10 joins that list.
