Unfortunately the only memory I have of Christmas, is the NVA not going along with the cease fire, and can of Ham and Lima Bean "C" Ration I'll be nice and not use the other name for them.

In 1966 I was in Vietnam attached to the Vietnamese Special Forces on Christmas Eve I had roasted carp with the eyeballs still in it. I ate it has not to insult anyone but didn't like it. On Christmas Day the
Captain, 1st LT, and SFC went into the Officer's Club in Saigon, I stayed behind (my choice). That left me the only US Troop there, shortly after they left in comes a Huey and a General gets out with numerous Vietnamese Officers. I got the nerve to report to the General. It was Brig, General Polk, he was very friendly and was the only General I have met to date.
His Huey flew away and later the guys returned from Saigon. They brought with them steaks and potatoes for dinner. The 1st LT told the interpreter and I to borrow a wok and make the potatoes into French fries. The steaks were expertly fixed by the captain. I remember that meal almost as much as the meal on Christmas Eve (the second being much better). For those wondering why a SP4 was there in the first place somehow, I came off KP and ended up an RTO for an OF going to a VSF unit. We were in the rice paddles for almost a month when he got stuck in the mud bad enough, he had to be evacuated by Huey, leaving me until getting replaced.
