On January 12, 2010, Haiti is devastated by a massive earthquake. It drew an outpouring of support from around the globe but the small nation has yet to fully recover.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, due largely to its history of colonization, occupation and exploitation by Spain, France and the United States. It also has a history of seismic activity—devastating earthquakes were recorded there in 1751, 1770, 1842 and 1946. The island of Hispaniola, which Haiti shares with the Dominican Republic, lies mostly between two large tectonic plates, the North American and the Caribbean. The Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince practically straddles this fault-line. Despite this knowledge and warnings from seismologists that another earthquake was likely in the near future, the country's poverty meant that infrastructure and emergency services were not prepared to handle the effects of a natural disaster.

Thank you for posting this piece of History, regarding the Massive Earthquake in Haiti, in 2010... I am in agreement with SSG Stephen Rogerson relative to the fact that 3rd world countries like Haiti and the Dominican Republic are subject to the corruption in government... Buildings there are built solid, with no give upon an earthquake and that just exacerbates the problem... In a poor nation like Haiti, their government has not done what is needed to lift their people from poverty and even with worldwide contributions to help them, the corruption is still pervasive...

They sure did ! If fact a good friend of Mine Bernard Sansaricq and a fellow Cadet with me at Bordentown Military Institute, Bordentown, NJ was the President of the Senate, for the country of Haiti. The Clinton's tried to bribe Him and tell Him they would make His the richest man in Haiti. He let them know He couldn't be bought ! Within 5 days, He was then warned by the President of the Dominican Republic the Clinton's intended to have Him killed. He fled Haiti to save His life. Five other Haitian officials that got the same warning stayed and were all murdered. Being a major Haitian Government official He told Me that He had the figures that proved none of the money raised by the Clinton's was ever received by Haiti. Also within 5 days after turning down the Clinton bribe His visa to the US was taken. He now lives in Florida and ran as a Conservative Republican for the US Congress but lost to the well funded Democrat. . He also laid out the Clinton theft to the Presidential candidate Donald Trump with a Sansaricq's speech in person at a Trump rally in Florida when Trump spoke to thee Haitian Community there. There is video, which I watched and Bernie told Me about. After His speech Trump even stated He didn't even know most of that and thanked Him. (Not hearsay, I watched the video where that speech was made) Benard Sansaricq also was a guy I hung around with on campus at BMI, We are still friends and do see each other from time to time and talk. I can attest He is 100% honest and No , he could not be bought !

1SG Steven Imerman - So am I, Bernie is also very good friends with Lt. Colonel West, US Army (Ret) who had been a Republican FL Congressman also.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - That's interesting. My youngest brother was in the same small group at the Command and General Staff College at Ft Leavenworth with then Maj. West. They are friends to this day and have stayed at each others' homes. My brother was a newly minted Navy O-4 at the time.
