"Syria has been the epicenter of the conflict between al-Qaeda and its renegade affiliate the Islamic State, and has been the place where the jihadi movement has suffered most from internal conflicts and from the failure to solve them. Two periods of intra-jihadi conflict demonstrate the scale and impact of the problem for jihadis. The first — which started in late 2013 and continued until the fall of 2014 — involved the organizational splinter between al-Qaeda and the Islamic State and the latter’s caliphate declaration. The second began in the fall of 2017 and lasted until the summer of 2020, and covered the contestation between Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and rivaling jihadi groups in Idlib, including Hurras al-Deen, the local al-Qaeda outfit."
Sir,
Why does Mr. Hamming call the Islamic State renegade? It is a direct order from Muhammad to form a Caliphate when there is power to do so.
Once America placed favor on the Shia in Iraq, the JV team, led by two former Iraqi Generals, not only followed Muhammad's orders, but followed other his other orders relating to Infidels and Apostates.
Don't you think, rather than intra group fighting, it is fighting based on which group follows Muhammad and his orders vs those seen as Apostates? For example Shia vs Sunni. Or, Those following Baghdadi vs those who follow the Caliph in Turkey?
I also do not agree this is a Jihdi issue. Isn't it an Islamic issue? Islam is the religious and political system they all follow. Yet, there is in fighting not due to Jihadi differences. There is in fighting due to which leader of Islam they are aliened to?
By all means, arm both sides Sir.

LTC Eric Udouj - Thank you for your reply Sir.
I suspect, you noticed the current actions by Islamic terrorists in Africa are just like the actions of Muhammad's second half of his live as a War Lord. They murder the Infidels and carry off slaves.
There was a Christian website that posted the atrocities and was asking for money. To me, money and prayers will not stop the enemy. Only power at this present time. For example: Forming up in rifle companies with whatever support they can find, patrol, find and destroy the enemy. If it was me there with a destroyed family, that would be what I would do. I do not see any other way. Otherwise, they should submit.

Probably never can say just important your statement was -- if a nation is going to beat them - they have to wage war to defeat them --- and in that miindset that it is one or the other... its not just a trade of a corrupt government for them... Now shaping that message is our weakness.. we have not been able to take that focus and weaponize it. Good points as always Mark!!!

LTC Eric Udouj Is my to the point direct approach poor etiquette in lecture for young minds?
My knowledge with the enemies Ideology is from experience and information from those returning from the front line.
I do not lump all within a religion as the same.
Thank you for your reply Sir.

The minds to lecture that need to hear that are those who have to live there and such is easier to understand when the threat is either you fight or you submit to their rule. There is no option 3 or 4...

Great article, and while reading it, I could not help but find some similarities to what is happening within the Republican party as of late.

LTC Eric Udouj - I must have been out of earshot for the knife sharpening, but yes, with an aim of trying to be inclusive of everyone, the Democrats will have to get their conflict resolution skills honed up. But I am not seeing the same level of infighting in Democrat camps as I do among the Republicans, though it may just be a matter of perspective and the terrain over which I have visibility. Perhaps at some point the party of Lincoln will choose to freely embrace the Q-Anon followers in their quest to rid the word of pedophile lizard people while still managing to keep the white supremacist factions within the fold.

The first rumbles were in DC 2 weeks back - and then in NYC this weekend - mainstream media does not provide much of anything that is not towing a political line. As to the Q-Anon -- am sure propaganda has made them 10 foot taller than they might be - and they are used for fear mongering by the media.. Ever wonder why they were invented -- or who invented them? They serve a purpose - but whose it is is always not what initial perception may be is the usual history of IW. Seen similar groups run before in the Cold War- just they all ended up with foreign backing. Would love to have some of those groups out there making hell for the jihadi cause -- but we are too focused on our own destruction to mount such an effort and someone not turn it.

Also - if your interested in keeping in earshot - you might find https://www.bellingcat.com/ a fine site at how they investigate things not up for usual views. Some of it is really good learning as well on How To - and so worth a look at. That is a high compliment for them on my part.
