There are those afraid of an armed insurrection who would want to disarm those who can best make use of a weapon.

Do Not Like.
I am enrolled in the VA, and have amongst my other issues, mental health diagnoses. So yes, I AM in the affected group.
But, still... do not like. Not because I am against the idea, but because it ONLY covers the VA. The issue at large is the violation of due process. People can have their second Amendment rights stripped based without having a chance to defend themselves or their right, based on psychological diagnoses. This happens without a judge, without a trial or even a hearing. And then they are left to fight a legal battle (and pay for it!) to get their enumerated rights back. Wrong, wrong, wrong. This bill is an attempt to prevent VA from participating in that farcical process, which is great! But A) it doesn't protect veterans from OTHER sources stripping them of their rights, and B) it only covers veterans.
When it comes to the Constitution, and the rights espoused within it and its Amendments, I did NOT sign up and fight to protect only veterans. I signed up and fought to protect ALL Americans. In a way, this bill, by saying that veterans are more worthy of Constitutional rights than non-veterans, is a slap in the face to all veterans who signed up to serve all Americans, not just those currently or formerly in uniform.
