To Matt Masterson, the review of 2020 ballots from Maricopa County, Ariz., that's underway is "performance art" or "a clown show," and definitely "a waste of taxpayer money."
But it's not an audit.
"It's an audit in name only," says Masterson, a former Department of Homeland Security official who helped lead the federal government's election security preparations leading up to November's election. "It's a threat to the overall confidence of democracy, all in pursuit of continuing a narrative that we know to be a lie."
By lie, he means the assertion from former President Donald Trump and some of his allies that election fraud cost him a second term in the White House.

I've spoken to some of the faithful. They absolutely believe this stuff.
It's sad that the local Republicans are going along simply to gain and keep power.
What made our Democracy strong was our belief in it. Every day we allow this type of thing to continue is a clear and present danger to the US. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is the gravest threat the US has faced since the Cold War. It's the only thing we've faced since then that has a reasonable chance of taking the US down.

A1C Mike Allen - I understand. There are people politically profiting off of getting people not to trust the system. The problem is, they don't have any evidence of it that survives scrutiny. If they did, we'd all want it fixed. But that isn't stopping them from sowing distrust for short term political gain.

A1C Mike Allen - Unfortunately what is going on in AZ isn't an audit of the system. It is a partisan group going in that has already come to its conclusion and is now looking for things that will give certainty to those who already believe.

The BIG LIE continues.
Let me ask these Trump supporters one question:
What is to be gained by continuing this clown show? The vote was certified at all levels! The courts all held there was no evidence of fraud. Congress confirmed the vote. Biden was inaugurated.
Even IF (a very, very bif if) there was some amount of fraud discovered, so what? What can be done now?
Read the Constitution. There is nothing to allow Biden to be removed and Trump "reinstated." Nothing!
All this fiasco has accomplished is cause serious damage to democracy, installing distrust and fear.
BIDEN WON!
TRUMP LOST!
Time to move on.

I agree Biden will not be removed until his cognitive decline becomes to obvious. If there are problems with the voting machines it would be nice to get them fixed.if there was fraud with the loosely goosy write in ballots etc it can be corrected. If Biden won by fraud he will be a lame duck.
