On June 11, 1927, Charles Lindbergh was awarded the first Distinguished Flying Cross. From the article:
"On June 11, 1927, Charles Lindbergh received the first Distinguished Flying Cross ever awarded. Since 1927, aviators honored with this medal have included World War II pilots President George Bush, Senator George McGovern, and astronaut Virgil "Gus" Grissom who flew one hundred missions during the Korean War.
Lindbergh's nonstop solo flight across the Atlantic on May 20-21, 1927, made aeronautical history. The stunt-flyer-turned-airmail-pilot's flight was underwritten by a group of St. Louis businessmen. Flying his monoplane, Spirit of St. Louis, Lindbergh captured the $25,000 prize offered for the first flight between New York and Paris."

Remember seeing this happen on a PBS special a few years ago brother SGT (Join to see) , it was a great presentation to see.

That was an incredible achievement! And he did it without any of the modern navigational aids, only a magnetic compass to guide him. I wonder what he used for a piddle-pack? He was in the air for thirty-three and a half hours, so he must have used something in which to relieve himself. He had mui grande cajones to undertake that challenge.

1LT Voyle Smith I have a friend, retired Air Force U2 pilot. We spoke about that very situation once. He said he had a bladder for urine but anything else he was chit out of luck! Lol

SFC William Farrell - I once flew on a T29 that had a relief tube in the floor, with a funnel mounted above it. You whizzed into the funnel and it went straight down as yellow rain over the countryside. But I never did learn how they handled a #2.
