"After a year of protests, advocacy, and a grueling trial, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is facing accountability for his murder of George Floyd. For the charge of second-degree murder, Judge Peter Cahill has sentenced Chauvin to 22.5 years in prison, of which he is expected to serve 15.
Before the sentencing, Judge Peter Cahill denied Chauvin’s motion for a new trial and his legal team’s efforts to evaluate alleged jury misconduct. In his sentencing, Cahill cited the four aggravating factors in Chauvin’s case that included the fact Chauvin abused his position of trust and authority and treated Floyd with “particular cruelty.” The nature of his crimes, and the substance of Chauvin’s defense, likely played a role in this sentence.
Chauvin showed little contrition, though he did aim a strange statement of “condolences” to Floyd’s family, adding that there would be “new information in the future” that he hoped would give them “peace of mind”. This eerily-worded statement fell well short of showing accountability or directly apologizing, and stung particularly badly after the statements made by Floyd’s family to the courtroom"

We all seen him do it. The worst problem is that cops cover for the scumbags in their ranks and so do GOP politicians!!!!!

"We all seen him do..." what? Pin a criminal down for too long? Wait for paramedics to come, then call for them to come when they were taking too long? Try to talk the ODing arrestee into the car, then put him on the ground instead of in four-point restraints and shove him in despite his claustrophobia?
Yeah, it was heartrending listening to him yelling that he couldn't breathe, loudly; yelling for his girlfriend. It was sad that the woman who was an off-duty paramedic didn't know better than to try to push things when she had no ID and no uniform and they had no reason to believe she was an actual medic; it was sad that the bounce from the nearby club literally threatened them, insuring that the level of tensions were kept high enough that they couldn't focus on the man who was down.
It is also sad that Mr. Chauvin didn''t have better combat training. If police had better hand-to-hand training and practice time, they could better restrain people who are combative without injuring them. It is sad that they don't have better medical training, but then they are not EMTs despite being first responders. With the budget cuts Mayor Frye has implemented over his tenure and the hostility and restrictions the Minneapolis City Council have been pushing for years, this sort of incident was bound to eventually happen. Call it unintend consequences or call it an intentional result of political agenda, there is no question that they share in the burden of blame for this.
This was bad policing. In no way was this murder. That doesn't matter, though; from the moment the national media started airing the portions of the videos from people's cell phones that made this look the worst while holding off on any info that would help explain what actually happened, Chauvin's fate was sealed. The City of Minneapolis and our Attorney General put a few extra nails in the coffin with things like press releases about non-existent settlements with the family, just to make sure.

his offer of "condolence" to the Floyd family is a slap in the face. he will NEVER man up and admit what he did. may he rot in that prison
