Ah, sitting here in the comfort of our homes, drinking our morning coffee, how easy it is for us to judge.
Keep in mind the situation, a loud, angry, aggressive crowd is smashing down doors and windows, intent on getting into the area where our elected representatives were being protected. Chaos reigns. A trained, experienced officer sees a threat, and his training and duty kick in.
It is very regrettable the lady lost her life.
But that officer did his duty!

PO3 Steven Guess
MSG Stan Hutchison I didn't know it was a police officers duty to shoot and kill an unarmed civilian. If that was his duty then maybe we should be investigating the people running the capital police. Especially since this isn't the first unarmed, innocent woman that they have shot and killed in recent memory.

PO3 Steven Guess - It was the officers duty to protect his charges, the members of Congress and their staffs. Period! That is what he did!
Now, I have had enough of this nonsense.

He saved countless lives? How so? From the 5ft, 125lb unarmed woman? Like all those other tens and hundreds of people who were killed in the riot?
When you have SWAT officers standing 6 ft away from her in a position to grab her if they chose to, there is no reason this guy fired his weapon. He even states he didn't know if she had a weapon or not.
Disgraceful.

SrA John Monette - Bingo. And by making that statement it just proves that you're the racist.

SPC Erich Guenther - I"m sure they were trained, Erich, but they knew there was going to be a larger crowd than usual. They asked for help and were denied. Pelosi wanted them to be overwhelmed. Funny that they wanted the cops in Portland and other places to be overwhelmed also. But called in 26,000 troops to protect themselves. Shows their hypocrisy.

SrA John Monette - You don't know all those people and yet you call them racists. Race-baiting dude. That makes you a racist.

"Last resorts" are usually followed by a series of actions indicating that other methods were tried first. In this case, all they have was the barricade (one attempt). No verbal warning issued that officer would use deadly force, no warning shots fired, no non-lethal means other than the barricade attempted. It screams lack of training more than anything else. The radio chatter could have been wrong and he needs to deal with the radio chatter like that when a civil disturbance is underway.....it should not lead him to panic or skip basic steps he learned as a LEO. Did anyone tell the protestors that the House was still in session? Did anyone tell the protestors breaking in that door they were crossing a red line to the use of deadly force. I'm not reading about either ever happening. The fact that the House marked this a justified shooting without more than a very summary investigation is a travesty of justice and ensures this type of thing will happen again in the future.

SrA John Monette - Well now that sounds like an absolute statement. Which are the easiest to prove incorrect because they are made from emotion vs research. You do know that the DC National Guard has a variety of non-lethal CD weapons and their toolset has evolved considerably from the 1980's in the non lethal area. So one can wonder if the local NG units have them.........why doesn't the DC police? Oop! Back to Congressional Mismanagement again.

SrA John Monette - Oh please that is so lame. You know what I meant. Also I don't believe that Capitol Police are trained to shoot an attacker at close range with a pistol (only a few steps away) in the neck. Where the shot landed at such close range should tell you something about the officer's pistol training as well. Not to mention a complete lack of CD training. No warning whatsoever before shot is fired and they are in a well lit room with good acoustics. The guy is shown on video to just whip out the pistol and shoot. Perfectly fine with all those points.....no issues there. C'mon, get serious.
