Well, only tax dodging billionaires have over $600 in bank transactions per year or carry over a $600 balance. You have nothing to worry about.

BTW - of all the cases the IRS has tried since the $10,000 flag was put in place, in 1970, less than 1% have led to a conviction. “Tax evasion” is a smoke screen for more government intrusion.

While true, the defendant had to pay huge resources to defend himself.

The $10,000 flag was/is intended for Banking Auditors of the OCC (Treasury's Office of Currency Compliance) to monitor BANKS for the most part. It's intended to help minimize money laundering while also uncovering those involved. It also gives the OCC a process to evaluate the health of banks and delves deeply into their Risk Management practices. It has little to do with tax evasion beyond money laundering.
A $600 limit would prove to be a SEVERE ... ACUTELY SEVERE burden on banks. I've loaned one of my sons, cumulatively, over $10K and he has paid me amounts over $600 both in cash and checks. I can't imagine the IRS knocking on my door (letter actually) asking me to justify deposits and withdrawals because any were over $600 bucks! No wonder Biden wants to hire THOUSANDS more IRS agents!
It's Big Brother running amok.

Where do we draw the line? Some time ago like David Foster pointed out $10K was made acceptable. I never really thought about it but maybe it's a bad law/regulation, whatever it is?

This is to get around the need for a search warrant. Would normally be a violation of 4th Amendment, but ... Biden. For those trying to link this to the 10k threshold. That is a fallacy. The 10k was to try and catch drug dealers and such, of which very, very few were actually prosecuted (generally at a many multiples of amount going after). This $600, is nothing more than trying desperately to find anything to help fund their massive government spending. Just like the Patriot Act, the government will always go too far than states purposes...

As always with the Progressive Socialist Democrats, it's about total control. This is what I believed but you explain it better than I ever could. Thanks.

SFC (Join to see) - It is always about control, and frankly it happens on both sides. I once argued in one of my political science classes that the left/right political spectrum is not linear, but circular. My argument was that at the far ends they both are tyrannical. My professor looked at me like I had 3 heads, promptly gave me a C for complete. The next week, he told me I might be onto something after they thought about it for awhile.

LT Brad McInnis - I guess that's why I'm an old Democrat who considers myself a Conservative. The Democrats have left me a long time ago, but I have nowhere to go, and I like voting in primaries. How many times have I written here on RP there are no differences between Democrats and Republicans.

SFC (Join to see) - I think there are real differences between democrat and republican voters, but I think there is a lot more in common than we are told. Very little difference between democrat politicians and republican politicians.
