Voting bill collapses, Democrats unable to change filibuster

I put this slide together as part of a presentation I use when discussing how our government is supposed to work as envisioned by our Founding Fathers as they struggled move from our original ‘Articles of Confederation’ to our Constitution with its relatively few Amendments. We used to learn this sometime during Elementary school and progressively in Jr. High and High school. The key points are:
1. We are a Constitution-Based Republic and not a Direct-Democracy
2. Both are Democracies and both provide for Majority Rule
3. The two chambers of ‘Congress’ emulate respectively:
a Direct-Democracy (House of Representatives)… i.e. an Athenian-style Democracy
a Representative-Democracy (U.S. Senate)… i.e. a Roman Republic-style Democracy

The huge difference between those two styles deals with how the minority is dealt with:
1. The House of Representatives is a ‘Mob Rule’ chamber. 50% plus 1 rules, period.
2. The U.S. Senate both provides for several flavors of Majority Rule and at the same time provides a degree of protection for minorities that would otherwise be at the Peril or mercy of the mob.

Golden examples of protection for minorities are the Constitution’s Bill of Rights and the U.S. Senate rules including the Filibuster. They are the things that make us a Republic and it’s served us well for 234 years (this coming March 4th).

What bothers me are voting machines that can be hacked by school students.
