A lot of the vehicles that have been abandoned show at least one missing tire, those Chinese Michelin knock offs could be part of the issue.

I read a different article about tire issue. Along with cheaper Chinese parts, long disuse may also be a factor. If you do not drive a vehicle regularly and leave it outdoors, tires may dry rot or deteriorate from being out in the elements.
