I think Russia is in real trouble in Ukraine. Their troop cohesion has to be low and they have not switched their economy to a wartime production footing so they can't easily replace their losses. Their vast tank reserves are mostly illusory and at some point Russia still needs to keep some forces in reserve for national protection. They now have to contend with Ukrainian attacks on their own soil so they will need to split their focus and also pay attention to national defense from the current conflict much less any other potential belligerents. Ukraine, on the other hand, is getting an increasingly steady supply of war materials from a variety of western nations.

I think Russia will have to quickly find something they can claim as victory and try to end the conflict. The question in my mind is will Ukraine allow them to do that as long as Russians try to maintain control over Ukrainian territory?

Russia is in trouble with maneuver, but it still has fires. Although it suffered high casualties for infantry and armor, Ukrainians continue to suffer from indiscriminate strikes against both military and non-combatant civilian targets.

LTC Eugene Chu - That is all true. When I look at this it becomes a question of if Russia can defeat Ukraine militarily? It's becoming increasingly obvious that they can't and are (at best) heading for a stalemate. If dealing with a stalemate this becomes a question of political will. If it becomes a question of political will it seems pretty obvious to me who can outlast the other.
