For Fredricka Gordon, Memorial Day weekend is about honoring the man she's named after, her father Frederick Seelig.
"He was a lifelong Marine, he loved the Marine Corps, everything about it," said Gordon. "My dad is a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was at Hancock Field during the bombing of Pearl Harbor."
Gordon's father enlisted in the Marine Corp when he was 17 years old. Both of her parents have been laid to rest at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
The Department of Veteran Affairs held their annual Memorial Day ceremony, filled with keynote speakers, musical performances, and the firing of a military rifle volley, a cannon salute, and the playing of Taps.

For Gordon, Memorial Day weekend is more than cookouts and a few days off from work. It's remembering those who served and the sacrifices they made.
"Oh, these guys, all of them. They deserve everything; we wouldn’t be here without them," she adds. "These kinds of events will keep these people in everyone’s memory. Hopefully forever, and unfortunately the World War II guys are kind of fading away. We have to remember them.”
