I really doubt a invasion in 1943 would have worked.

The Germans were also much stronger in 1943 then they were in 1944. Also the Luftwaffe would have given the Allied Air Forces a much tougher time I think.

I'm sure that's what was in Stalin's mind when he kept pushing the other Allies to land in France. However, I believe we weren't ready in the summer of '43 and had the invasion failed then, it could have set the western Allies back for a couple of years.

If it could have ended a year earlier then, many lifes could have been successfully saved.
