Alcohol use increased during the pandemic. One study suggests more Americans under 65 died from alcohol-related causes than COVID in 2020. Even before COVID hit, alcohol use and abuse was already a growing problem, particularly in the Midwest. Natalie Krebs of Side Effects Public Media and Iowa Public Radio reports.

If only alcohol abuse only affected the individual who is abusing it. Unfortunately, that is not the case. It has a negative effect on the entire family that can last a lifetime. That negative effect has ramifications to everyone with whom they associate particularly on the streets and highways of our nation. Some of this comes from untreated depression causing individuals to self medicate. It is a downward spiral that even with awareness sometimes cannot be escaped with devastating effects
