PO1 William "Chip" Nagel Bad management makes for strong Unions. I've been both... ultimately you pay Union Dues to have a fair workplace that pays a fair wage with benefits & provides job security without "favoritism". You are fooling yourself if you think you would be making what you make or have benefits... if it were not for the blood, sweat, tears, & death of Union Members. Don't take me wrong... there is good in both Company & Union... you chose the lesser of two evils. That has been my personal experience.

I'm not in favor of unskilled unions. As a past business owner, I never saw an improvement in working conditions or pay for hourly employees that joined unions. By the time union dues were deducted pay actually stayed the same or went down. But that's just my experience. I know in the past unions were helpful in working conditions and pay.

If I were the franchise owner I would just shut down the location. Unions have a place but not at a franchise where corporate sets pricing and supplies all the components of whatever you sell. In this case the owner does not have the ability to raise prices, or change to cheaper suppliers to offset increased labor costs.

By the way a Chipotle Franchise costs between $125 and $150K to open.
