For me, the entire Allied command was so mired in past tactics, that they should have been held responsible for far too many needless deaths of the men on the ground. Their refusal to adopt new tactics, or even to improvise with old ones is mind boggling at times. Only with the advent of the tank did any type of change occur. That and fresh American bodies to through in the grinder.
