During the 1972 Summer Olympics at Munich, in the early morning of September 5, a group of Palestinian terrorists storms the Olympic Village apartment of the Israeli athletes, killing two and taking nine others hostage. The terrorists were part of a group known as Black September, in return for the release of the hostages, they demanded that Israel release over 230 Arab prisoners being held in Israeli jails and two German terrorists. In an ensuing shootout at the Munich airport, the nine Israeli hostages were killed along with five terrorists and one West German policeman. Olympic competition was suspended for 24 hours to hold memorial services for the slain athletes.

I was going on 15 that year, I remember seeing this on the evening news, crazy times then and still Lt Col Charlie Brown

Lt Col Charlie Brown - That was also a year after my brother was killed by a drunk driver.

This was while I was in Basic, so I didn't learn about for a long time afterwards. I didn't see much TV for months after Basic, because the only TV was in our day room, and it was always on some sports coverage. We had TV at my section, but it was constantly on political BS that several of the civilians watched, all day long.
I didn't have a TV in my room until the middle of summer the following year.

I certainly remember the horror of all that and at that time I was a SSgt in the USAF and on My second enlistment and stationed at Hickam AFB, HI.
