Before my ancestor came to the Colonies, people in Germany were banned from possessing swords after the 30 years war. The upper class of society weren't affected except they had no one to fight with. That's why when Queen Ann of England was able to recruit my greatest grandfather to come to New Amsterdam and help oust the Dutch, he jumped at the chance. Little did he know it would be an economic war and they had to out farm the Netherlanders.
