I have noticed carbines are becoming more popular among those that live in cities and suburbs. Those I have spoken to are saying they want to have a weapon that is more accurate than a pistol plus can help them defend themselves and their neighbors at a longer range. Since they aren't classified as a handguns there is less kick-back from local gun regulations and (a direct quote) "Stigmata from their neighborhood gun-grabber".
I always felt the carbine is a nice alternative to a full-size rifle. I say this because you can get one that uses the same ammo as your pistol, they normally range out to 150 meters/yard and they handle easier for smaller people/women to use due to the lower/lack of recoil-affect.

SFC Ralph E Kelley Your 2nd paragraph is spot on. I have had a little Marlin Camp 9 since well before they stopped production. Love it for plinking, love it for camp varmints, love it for maneuverability in house or motorhome. For me, for us, having common ammo for our defensive weapons is a plus.

I have the Ruger 9mm PC9 Carbine & the P89DC Combo.. I originally got the P89DC in 1993 and acquired the PC9 Carbine in 1997. I've been happy with both of them, especially since I can swap magazines between the two weapons.
My wife has a Hi-Point 995 TS, 9mm. She found out early the 20 round angled magazines were subject to feed failures so we got her the 15 round straight magazines. She had no issues since she switched them out. Unfortunately the 9mm carbine mags fit and function in C9 pistol but pistol mags don't fit (too short) in carbine. However the four original 10 round magazines that came with her 995s (though they stick out) are her extra mags for the C9. The 15 round aftermarket magazine work in the C9 too but are real awkward.

SFC Ralph E Kelley - All of my ammo is measured in .X Caliber, A couple have mm equivalents. I have a Ruger P90. When I bought it I had a P89 in one hand and the P90 in the other. If the balloon goes up, so many folks have 9s it's going to be the 1st caliber to disappear

SGT (Join to see) - I have enough - in my opinion - 9mm but when it comes to .223/5.56 and .308/7.62 I have a fair amount.
I have a reloader and a full set of dies. When people ant me to reload cartridges, I always have them pay for their own powder and ball. Everytime a 'new' caliber comes out I have the first guy that asks me to reload his buy the dies - taken out as as part of his cost.

Nice platform, and where it's going, I wouldn't doubt it, all carrying on to the pump action.
