Some of us live in fairly backwards states and the Constitution hasn't quite made it there yet. Try getting a concealed carry permit in Hawaii.

The article uses a pretty poor example. The guy was on federal probation and given the nature of the crime, likely one he was prohibited from possessing a firearm a firearm as a condition of that parole. Constitutional carry wouldn't apply to such an individual. It also explains why the ATF needed no warrant to enter his house. People on parole lose a lot of normal protections and rights.

The writer is 100% correct about the POTENTIAL trap of the federal Gun Free School Zone Act, but there is no evidence that this particular trap has been sprung on any innocent citizen who just happened to be passing within 1000 feet of school property while carrying a firearm.
I would not be at all surprised to see a GFSZA referral in any of the classically anti-gun states, but in a constitutional carry state it unlikely that the Feds would ever know about the case except when the subject was a federal parolee (as was Barber).
Yes, the law needs to be repealed or amended, and yes I suppose constitutional carriers ought to keep it at least in the back of their mind, but the soonest that this makes any difference in the real world will be Tuesday, November 5, 2024 when we go to the polls hoping for another GOP Hat Trick.
I'm moderately hopeful that the GOP can pull off another Hat Trick, but a lot less hopeful that they will do any more with it than they did the last time.
