Joe Rochefort is one of my biggest heroes. At Station Hypo, he and his crew of code-breakers created the cryptographic breakthrough that turned the Pacific War in our favor. A brilliant man, Rochefort had to deal with political bureaucracy in his naval career. He's part of a brilliant tradition that has given us a crucial military advantage for decades.

I was only a small part of it. But Signals Intelligence has been a crucial advantage for the U.S. armed forces for over a century. Yes, we are very lucky that men like CDR Rochefort have been working for our side. And we shouldn't fool ourselves, some of our likely enemies have some very bright folks in this field as well.
