Last week, we went to the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton, Alberta.
I observed a Spanish licensed Spanish Air Force Me -109.
These were designed with the Merlin engine that were put in the P-51 Mustang and in the Spitfire fighter planes.
So if you watch this movie, you will see that the German fighter planes look a little strange because they were Spanish Air force ME- 109s. This particular Spanish fighter plane was from Sevilla, Spain. I wouldn't be surprised this plane was actually repainted and flew in the 1969 Battle of Britain movie.
The twin engine German Heikel bombers we're also licensed and made in Spain. We have to thank the Spanish Air Force because these planes were still in service and this was before computer generated imaging.
I was reading in the comments in YouTube that during the Battle of Britain, the Germans lost a total of 1,977 aircraft including 4,245 air crew members. Some survived in British prisoner of war camps but many were killed. Many of them had over 5 years experience fighting in during the Spanish Civil War, Poland and in France.

A great plane, even if it was built by an evil wannabe empire.
I loved this movie. The Brits fought heroically and cost the nazis so much more than just materiel. The losses of manpower and the causing of Germany to put off an invasion quite literally saved what was left of Western Europe's ability to wage war. The men who flew and fought were owed everything by the British citizens.

Remember in our cgsoc operations order concerning Operation Torch, we weren't sure if Franco was going to jump in and help the Germans even though they were neutral. At least General Franco chilled out and allowed for a transition to democracy after Decades of fascism.

LTC (Join to see) I do. I never understood the Vichy who could have just watched us comi g ashore instead of fighting us. They weren't going to be under German control after we landed. Such a waste.
