A great victory for the Allied forces. It's amazing how Rommel was such an effective leader in an Army of effective leaders. And even though they lost, Rommel was a shining star.

No plan ever survives first contact. Beat into us in the olden days. Learned it first growing up. Dad was a 27.5 year Army Vet. 3 purple hearts, silver star from Patton. Fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Also learned it in ROTC, Officer Basic and advanced course, and a follow on combat planning course and the old CAS3. Great article , thanks MAJ Dale E. When did you attend CAS3? I was there in May-July '86 with LTC Ollie Schierholz as my staff group leader. LTC Arnie Seligman was another staff group leader there at the time. They housed us in a place off post called the Condotel. Seligman retired and became the adjutant at VFMA&C and was there when I became a Tac in Jan. '95. . . .

MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. I attended Mar-June 1989. Had to do Grafenwohr. Couldn't go the year before was still commanding HHB of 4/3 FA BN 2nd AD(FWD) in northern germany was also the BN Signal Officer, at the same time, highly stressful 14 months filling 2 senior Captain positions. Looked forward to a 3 month vacation.
