Sometimes strikes are necessary, a lot of times they arent. I am a retired union millwright. Even though we do instalation of rotating machinery like turbines, generators, conveyors and have nothing to do with wood however we belong to the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. We are like the red headed stepchild or a bastard at a fathers day picnic to the carps. we went out on strike because the carps did. I picketed and can't say that the Millwrights gained much from striking but I reserve the unions right to strike. Sometimes it's necessary.

I agree. However, a union as critical to the nation as this one is also has a responsibility to keep the goods moving. . . .

The union tactic of hostility versus management doesn't gain meaningful benefits. Citing executive pay doesn't mean that a particular union worker adds value to the company and deserves more money. In this economy, management and the union must work together, not throw commentary at one another. Striking is the right of the union workers, but it puts both them and the company executives at risk.
