Lawmakers eye ending affirmative action at military academies

Thursday’s Supreme Court decision which ended the use of affirmative action in college admissions contained a carve out for military service academies, but a key Senate Republican wants to eliminate it there too.
Shortly after the ruling was announced, Senate Armed Services Committee ranking member Roger Wicker, R-Miss., took to social media to praise the court’s ruling and his aim to “further prohibit our military service academies from engaging in race-based affirmative action.”

Applications to the service academies are open to all races and ethnicities. Our strength as a nation is our diversity, our academies are the elite, trained to lead.

MAJ Byron Oyler
The leaders that may lead my children in a war should not be chosen on diversity but capability and character. If a diverse group of people do not make that cut than rather always blame racism we should explore other reasons. At my son's predominantly black school they focus on athletics rather than academics.
