It's amazing to realize that after our decisive victory at Wake Island, we then turned around and had our lunch handed to us in the oceans and seas surrounding Guadalcanal. Savo Island, Iron Bottom Sound, the Santa Cruz Isands are littered with the wreckage of sunken US naval vessels. Thankfully we learned from these engagements and the lives and vessels lost weren't in vain.

Our ability to adapt is what made us better than the Japanese. The Japanese were still in 19th century thought processes. All of the senior leader suicides after a lost battle was huge.
