This really gets me upset because the bait and switch Inflation Reduction Act has $369 billion dollars to bribe other countries to go to clean energy.
If Republicans had their way, they would cut out the $369 billion in fraud, waste and abuse and use it for helping the American people or save the money for other priorities.
China is building their Navy at a much greater rate than the US Navy, yet we have money to bribe other countries to change over to clean energy but we don't have enough money to keep our older ships maintained and Mission capable.
The cost of keeping the old cruiser repaired and running is very high, but this Administration considers 'climate change' to be more dangerous than the impending invasion of Taiwan by Communist china.
We now have a hollow Navy. The Navy has considered decommissioning over two dozen ships and this is one of them.
This ship will sit in the reserve Fleet and it cannot be reactivated that quickly.
When in a bad peace, prepare for war. Worrying about climate change takes money away from military readiness and a Limited nuclear war caused by us becoming a second rate and wimpy Naval power will lower the Earth's temperature anyway.

The Ticonderoga class had an expected service life of 35 years. She served from 1988 to this year, so she made her lifespan.

If the current crop of Republicans ever passed anything to help the American people your point might make sense. They've controlled the House for 9 months but have proposed nothing that falls into that category.
