It reminds me of a homily on Christmas Eve, where the priest presented an idea of why Jesus was born in a manger. Perhaps because God wanted us to know that life is messy. And smelly. And dank and dark. And that we should be willing to surrender to that reality, just as Jesus the Christ did.
I left that mass with tears streaming down my face. I had always felt ashamed of my messiness. Less than. Beyond redemption. Too damaged. And suddenly it was okay to be messy. Thank you Jesus!
