PO1 H Gene Lawrence - Speaking of juries, I must relate an experience I had.
Ft. Richardson, AK, 1980. A CW4 in our section and I were both called to be interviewed on a Court Martial. I was waiting for my turn to be questioned when the Chief was called. After the usual question, the prosecutor said this juror was acceptable. The defense stood up and ask the Chief if he thought he could make an unbiased decision as to guilt. The old Chief thought for a minute, then said "Sure. Bring the guilty son-of-a-bitch in and let's get this show on the road."
Bam went the Judge's gavel and he stated; "Mr. ******, you are excused and do not ever come into my courtroom again!"
"I won't," said the Chief, "and thank you."
This tickled my funny-bone and I could not help but laugh a bit. This must have irritated the Judge and he glared at me and said "Seargeant, since you find this so dammed funny, you can serve in the Warrant Officers place."
I did not find that very funny.
But it all worked out. The defense took a plea deal and I did not have to serve.
Such is my history in our military legal system.
